If all required Diablo 2 '.MPQ' files are installed on the hard drive, the game will no longer require the CD to play.įor users that originally performed a 'Full Installation' and wish to run without the CD, all '.MPQ' files should be copied from the Diablo 2 CDs to the Diablo 2 directory. The following is the patch notes regarding this no CD feature. You just have to do a full install and copy all MPQ files from the Play Disc to your Diablo II installation directory. If you installed the latest 1.12 patch, it already doesn't need your CD to play. Apparently Diablo II developers has decided that enough is enough. looks like I didn't need the no-CD loader after all. Now I can play Diablo II without swapping CD's. I copied the latter two files, as the first one already exists, into the Diablo II directory. I placed the original Diablo II Play Disc into my CD drive and found "D2CHAR.MPQ", "D2MUSIC.MPQ", and "PlAYD2.MPQ" on the disc. Please insert your Diablo II CD." message, shown in screen shot below.
However, after copying the no CD loader files in to "C:\Program Files\Diablo II" and executing "D2Loader-1.12.exe", I got a "Couldn't load Diablo 2 MPQ files. Luckily, I found DIABLO 2 v1.12a NO-CD LOADER (22.7KB). But now I've been spoiled by Steam, where none of Steam games requires the original CD to be inserted at start. Now, I am determined to pass the entire game. The first time, I had never gotten past Act I. I recently started playing Diablo II again.
